Anyone have a source for boxer primed 7.62x39 brass.I have checked all the mail order places I can find and no one lists them and they are not something I can find in local stores,
Once in a blue moon I come across Winchester 7.62x39mm brass at a gunshow. Its out there, just got to keep your eyes peeled for it as it goes pretty quick. Wholesale sports lists it in their catalog... who knows if they actually stock it though.
so if a guy were to start reloading the 7.62x39, what primers would you use, regular or military?
also what bullet diameter is the x39 russian cartridge and would the shells need to be crimped?
ahh, never mind, i googled it, .311 just like the .303, i assumed wrong with .308.
any decent hunting bullets for it?
how close must the bullet diameter be, google says .311, but hornady lists these at .310 diameter https://w w w.hornady.com/shop/?ps_session=3f54d953397385e85c9d16a802e59cde&page=shop%2Fbrowse&category_id=b30b914a0297302107cd8c4695880db5
There are loads on the Hodgedon website for bullets from Sierra and Hornady .311 and .312 in 125 and 150 grain bullets all soft point. That should do the trick I would say.
I would just go with regular primers personally. Winchester or CCI and as usual watch for pressure signs as you work your way up from starting load until you get a good grouping.
I have a bunch of S&B and PRVI Partizan brass that I wanted to reload for hunting. What primers would you use with that brass? Would Remington or Winchester primers work with these shells?
S.I.R. used to list bullet's for the 7.62X39 and it was .310, but I've heard of a guys using .311 as well.
This is why I asked the question in the first place. And just in case this were to happen I want to be prepared,I can see this happening with the current Gov. in power down there. And it just follows along with the policys the U.S. sate department has come up with lately.
I've used CCI large rifle primers and haven't had any issues. When the brass were available and cheap everywhere I stocked quite some. Using Reloader 7 26.5 grs on 123 gr hornady or speers always has good results.
This group was shot using reloaded rounds composed of Winchester brass, Federal LR Match primers and Reloader 7. Bullets were Hornady 123 gr. VMax bullets. They were shot through a 7.62 x 39 AR build at 100 yards.
It's well worth it to reload for this cartridge and they clean up a lot easier than corrosive ammo. You can also get fmj's from Hornady (although their catalogue lists them as discontinued) as well as 123 gr. SP's if you want to hunt with this calibre. They would do well in an SKS for example.
