For anyone trying this powder I recently got a pound of it and tried it out.

I've found 32gr pushing a 105 Lapua bullet got me a 5 shot group of .160"

This is in a 6 BR.

ice pick, that is very promising. Any velocity info?

It will definitely become a case specific powder but if it works, great. I am looking forward to when the new plant gets built and they start cranking out other formulations.

Looking a high energy Re15.

What i'm using.

The Rifle is a custom piece built from pieces. This was my 6PPC rifle that I swapped barrells on.
Robertson H and H stock
Barnard S action
Mac Lennan 31" 1-8 tw barrell
Kelbly 2 oz trigger
N/F Rings
N/F 12 - 42 X 56 BR scope.
Shot off a rest and bunny ears.

I quit using Varget last year because I couldn't get the groups to tighten up to .250 or better. It sounds picky but at 1000 yards this,ll make a difference for me. I had another shooter recommend the RE 15 and I switched from Sierra's to Lapua's and started using RE 15 and it worked alot better. I heard about RE 17 a while ago but wasn't one of the lucky ones to score any till recently.
I asked around for starting loads and the only response I got was from California and he suggested 32.5 gr to start. I loaded up 50 rounds of various weights and tried them (see pic). All of the loads would hit push pins at 100 yds (thats how I measure success for me, laff) but each struck the page at a little different place you just had to adjust a few clicks on the scope to be on. Two best loads were Green and Purple (I colour code loads). With Re 15 I had groups just under 1/2 or just under 1/4 it was a hit or miss thing but i'm finding the RE 17 more forgiving and all are capable of 1/4 or better for me.

I'm gonna enjoy experimenting with this one.
I had troubles sitting still when I started but I finally relaxed and got it working.

Mike,

Have you repeated the group with that load?

The RE17 load looks promising anyhow.

If you plan on chronying the load I would like to see what you get for velocities.

I have 9lbs of the stuff in my locker, not that my Varget load isn't printing small groups, but I have another 6BR I wouldn't mind tuning up a bit.

This was the first time out with this specific load. I'm about done for the year now for rifle. It's Skeet and snowmobile season very soon.
Golf clubs and Rifles going into winter storage.

Just found this post on accurateshooter.com

I do not think that RL17, Varget and RL15 are that far apart. Following are top loads in my 6BR with 107 Sierra shot in one session at 55 degrees.

33.4 RL17 - 2914.9
30.8 Varget - 2854.6
31.0 RL15 - 2879.3

Even allowing for RL17's innovative deterrent treatment, the velocities and powder charge indicate that RL17 is slower than RL15 and Varget by about 7-8%. The density and progressivity allow a little more in the case for better velocity. RL17 is not nearly as slow as H4350, for instance.

The key to understanding RL17 is that the burn rate does not change much as the charge burns. The deterrent treatment is uniform through the kernel. RL15 and Varget are treated with surface deterrents and change burn rate as the kernel burns. The effect is that RL17 has a broader, more progressive pressure curve with lower peak pressure.

My RL17 accuracy results in .308 were reasonably good but I still obtained better uniformity (ES/SD) with IMR 4064 and did not pursue further development. It remains my choice in 6BR.

Might be something to this. :D

I couldn't fit 31 gr of Varget IN my cases..... laff. When I tried i was showing pressure signs. My better grouping loads were around 2875 when my chronograph was in a good mood. (it hates me, i'm sure of it)
