I'm new to reloading I have all the gear I need now, I have been looking at the the Speer manual data for 300 mag and 30-06 as I will be loading for these 2 cal's. Reloader 22 looks like a good powder choice for these 2 cals. It does not produce the highest speed but it's in the top 3 for sure. The question I have is this a good powder to start with? I will be using Speer Grand Slam 180 grain bullets not sure about primers are CCI good?

I switched from Federal Match to CCI match this year, the Federals were not setting off the RL 22 consistantly. RL22 is an excellent powder choice for these 2.

I just looked up Reloader 19 speed goes up in the 30-06 but down a bit in the 300 winmag, pressure is up on both cal's with RL19 To me RL19 looks like it will have more knock down force than RL 22, I guess a safe start would be to start my loads at 10% under the RL 19 data posted on the Alliant website.

10% has always struck me as being very conservative especially in larger capacity cartridges. 5% (3-4 grains below max) is a good place to start IMO for anything with the capacity of 40 grains or more
