Reloadind Books

After reading feed back from my "Throw away Gun" post (http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?847593-Throw-away-gun) pretty much everyone said to get back into the books.

Here is an inventory of the books I have:

Speer Reloading Manual Number Ten
ABCs of Reloading - Lee Precision - 2004
Complete Handloader, The - by John Wooters
HODGDON Modern Smokless Powders Data manual No. 24
HODGDON Data Manual No. 25

My books are older ones and should I upgrade or follow what I have? If the books are like my university ones it's all the same information but newer captions or minor changes i would say it's not worth it. The other question i have what are the big differences between editions.

There is nothing wrong with the books you have, as they will provide a solid basis for understanding what to do. However, the load data has probably been superseded by current data, which can be found on the powder manufacturers' websites. So, study your manuals, and then check load data with information from the sites.

I've noticed that even long standing loads sometimes change in newer editions.

Off the top of my head, my long standing 44-40 load for the replica '73 type action rifles has been 8gr of unique, which was just above the starting load in a manual I had been using for years. Nice and mild in deference to these weak actions, I thought.

I just got the new edition of the manual, 2 revisions newer, and I see that my load is now just shy of maximum.

You can never have too much load data, even if yours is from trusted sources.
