I am reloading slugs and using Unique for a powder, now looking to reloading 00 buckshot, what will I need? I wnat to use Unique to keep my powder requirements simple, 00 shot I can get, but what wad do you recommand? I have pink winchester and gray wads. Does the 00 buck need a filler to take up the space around the shot?

Thanks for any help.

Have you been able to find any load data for 00 using Unique? I am going to try to load some as well I found data on the hogdon site. There is a good You tube video that covers reloading 00 buck the filler is optional..

Consider a copy of Lyman's newest shotshell reloading manual.Data for buckshot, slugs, steel, bismuth, lead.Well worth it. So many combos possible, so much info.Cheap like borscht, considering the amount of info within.

let me know if you find loads you are looking for

im trying to find a buckshot load with:

powder: unique, clays, 700x, or 800x
primer: CCI 209
wad: WAA12 and WAA12SL
hulls: remington gun club and federal top gun
shot: hornady 00 buck

luke s- I have heard of other using lead shot data to load buck using same weight payload substitution. At the Alliant Powder reloader guide, h t t p://www.alliantpowder.com/reloaders/default.aspx , they have some data with your components listed.

I have read the imr, hodgdon, and alliant guides.

They generally dont list my combination of components and if they do its not for buckshot. (typically different wads or primers are used)

I may try to substitute the 00 buck that is same weight as the shot if I research this more/get some loading confidence with shot shells.

I so far made one shell by uncrimping a federal top gun hull, pouring out the shot and putting in 9 - 00 buckshot pellets (3 layers of 3), but the buck bulges the sides of the shell and is a tight fit in my cooey 84 chamber (havent tried it my 870 chamber yet)

so I opened up some 1 1/8 ounce federal top gun (#9 shot) and remington gun club (#7.5 shot) shell and substituted hornady 00 buckshot (.330)

hand loaded :
9 pellets (1 1/8 oz) in a few, really tight, crimp didnt fully close, dont recommend
8 pellets (1 oz) decent fit and crimp
7 pellets (7/8 oz) best fit and crimp
and 6 pellets (6/8 oz) good fit, ok crimp

recrimped the shells with a Lee load all 2

didnt do any pattern testing but I did notice the 8 shot buck did about a 14" group at 15 yards from my 18" cyl bore 870 (with pistol grip only, haha) and had full penetration through the 3/8"? particle board (dont remember how thick)

overall happy, going to get a 00 buck mold to cast my own and try some reloads with a proper powder load
