I have a couple nice stevens model m44's in 25-20 SS. Have new redding dies, a bunch of original WRA rounds and about 100 new Bertram brass. Any load suggestions using smokeless powder.
also all the best to all in new year, Im optmistic
One tip I will give you is to go reeeaaalll slow when running them thru the press/dies The brass for 25-20 & 32-20 are thin & delicate....hurrying causes wrinkled brass!!
Hi Customs954
Sounds like we are on a similar flight path. I myself am to the point of firing my early Model 44 after about 2 years fettling it into shape & acquiring components. Just tried a single round with 7.0 grains IMR4227 to check function. Worked a charm. A bit chilly/windy lately to do chrony and testing but that shall come. I did anneal my Bertram brass before sizing just to be safe. I second what fingers284 says for sure. From my readings I suspect about 1350'/sec would be max for the 44 but I am hoping for best results nearer 1300. Likely to be better for case life as well.
I'll try to get back here with results when the weather eases. I've several of the powders recommended on other sites to try, but my accuracy will likely be only fair due to poor bore condition.
Cheers
