Reloading .270 WSM

About a year ago, I picked up a Savage 16FCSS in .270WSM. Now, don't get me wrong, I love this rifle. However, I don't like the fact that I pay twice as much as my buddy (who has a standard 270) for ammo.

I've been looking into reloading, but I've heard some discrepancies with reloading this cartridge. Do any of you have any ideas or opinions? Tips?

No tips exclusive to this round, but I think you will find reloading a satisfying passtime with the added bonus of accurate and cheaper ammunition.

You need $123 worth of equipment, some large rifle primers, a box of .277 bullets, a lb of powder, your old fired shells, and a bench to do it on. I don't load .270 WSM myself, but I haven't heard of "any discrepancies with reloading this cartridge" from my friends that do.

i load 270wsm for my Browning BLR ,its an awsome cartridge to reload ,just don't cheap out when you get reload equipment (you get what you pay for) i got the RCBS Rock chucker supreme kit and the charge master . the best prices i found were with Henry N on here. if you need more info send P.M

The only way to really justify buying the 270wsm is for the reloading aspects of it. For the price of factory ammo, and that the wsm is not really that much better than the 270 with factory ammo. Reloading for the wsm makes the cartridge stand out, and will cut your ammo cost's in half.

Now, I've gotten access to the majority of the equipment that Ill need to start reloading. A friend of mines dad used to be fairly avid into it. Now, the only thing that I'm lacking is a good set of dies. I've check my local gun shop, he didn't have anything for me in stock and would have to order some in.

Heres the thing, he would have to order from the same place I would online to be able to get them. Hence my wanting to shop around (Im a poor student).

Do you know of any good websites or the like where I can order/shop from?

A friend of mine has just recently bought a browning A-bolt in this caliber, a really nice gun, I have know knowledge of this cartridge tho...
-Do you have to trim every time u load,
-what kind of things should I be telling him about this cartridge, he is new to loading.

For dies I would check on the EE. Might be something good there. You may also find some 270 cal bullets as well. Thought I saw some on there last week. The EE seems expensive for rifles and scopes but sometimes there are some deals on reloading items.

I load 270wsm for 2 friends, I load a bunch of different calibers for friends actually, I don't think there is anything special about loading the 270wsm. I have read a few threads about how hard WSM brass is to re-size, but I load for 2 different 270 and 3 300wsm and don't notice the difference between them and a 7mm mag.

I normally buy redding dies for myself, but the guys I load for have bought Lee, RCBS hornady and even some old Texan dies. They all seem to work fine and produce decent results. The last dies bought that I tried were Lee with the collet neck sizing die, FL sizer and bullet seater in 300 mag, I think the set was just over $30. They seem to produce fine ammo, and are $20-30 cheaper than Redding.

I load the 270 and the 300wsm.
I find that the most reload I can get out of case is 4 times, then very small pin holes show in the case. I also use RCBS dies, the best powder for the 270wsm is MAG PRO.
