Howdy Gents
Please forgive my ignorance on the subject, but i'm considering getting into reloading for my .280. and want to get some info straight.
I have read that the factory .280 offerings are all loaded down to some extent due to the presence of older semi auto rifles out there that can't handle the higher pressures. Is this true? If so, is it possible to safely load the .280 to higher pressure values to get the velocities just a bit higher?
Thanks folks
Paul

Most really experienced reloaders load above SAAMI ( atleast in their hunting guns)but you got to know what you are doing. You have to know how to check for signs of pressure as you work up a load. The books are only a guide. SOme book loads are dangerous in some chambers...as I said the books are only a guide. Now about the 280 rem,I have loaded quite a few rounds for that cartridge .I get well above the book safely but don't ask for my load data as you will have to work up a load yourself.
If possible you should ask an experienced reloader to help you develope a load and use a chrono when doing so.

280 Remington

I currently own 2 firearms chambered in 280 Rem. Loads that are safe and work well in one are way too hot in the other. You must test your loads in your firearm. I have never heard that factory rounds are loaded down for use in semi-auto arms but it may be true. That has done with 45-70 for years.
