Hi Guy's
I reloaded some mixed 30-30 casings & on some of them I saw a bulge on one side of the neck right where the bullet ends. I full length resized the cases using a Lee full length die. It almost looks like the bullet (a 110 gr sierra) is going in crooked. But it does'nt happen to all of them.
Should this be something to worry about?? They chamber into my win 94 levergun fine. These are light loads using 27gr or IMR4895.
Anyone have some answers??
Thanks.
Kind Regards, Henry

Like others have said, check your bullet alignment and/or that your cases are seated completely in and centered in the shell holder.

One other possibility is that your FL die may be adjusted too far down and you are pushing the shoulder back a little. Try adjusting the dies, so that it just barely touches the shell holder. If they chamber OK - then you are go to go.

Henry,
Check the amount of crimp that you have set and after resizing, trim all your cases to the same length. It may be that you're putting too much crimp on some of the "mixed" cases, and as a result the cases are buckling at the neck.KD

Thanks for the input guys. All the cases are trimmed and chamfered. I'm not crimping though. I'm using a Lee factory crimp die at the end stage. I tried seating one only part way and took a close look at it. It looks like it is cocked to one side (mis-aligned)
How do I fix that??
Regards,Henry

I think I figured out the problem. I chucked a few of the cases in my drill press. And guess what, they don't rotate straight. They wobble. That tells me that the casings are not at a true 90 degrees to the rim.
I think that the bullet is aligned but the case is crooked.
They still chamber OK. So would it be OK to fire them still??
Regards,Henry

They should be ok to fire. Next time you're seating these bullets try setting them on the case and run the case into the die till it just kisses the seating plug. Then lower the ram enough to get two fingers on the case and turn it around..half a turn or more. This is often a better plan than eye-balling the alignment.
With light bullets that mis-alignment might affect accuracy as they'll be well off the lands.
Full length sized cases shouldn't "wobble" enough to cause a problem...

I'm guessing that the 110 grain nose contour doesnt mate up with seating die nose correctly and its getting canted when you start the down stroke. Is it a spire point? You could fit the nose plug to the bullet with a bit of J-B weld or the two part epoxy sold in Can Tire for fixing gas tank leaks. That's a two part grey coloured stuff that comes in round plastic tube that you knead together.

You could also try a neck expander die like the Lyman M die to open the case mouth a bit to allow you to start the bullet.
You might also try to seat the bullet half way then pull the case out of the die and rotate the case half a turn and then finish the seating.
I also believe it could be the seating plug.

You said you are using "MIXED .30-30 CASES". Is this some of your own and some range finds or someone elses once fired? On some old or worn Winchesters 94 actions have a tentancy to spring a little when fired, and you get a rim that is not a right angles to the bore. A test would be to stand all your fired brass up on their bases and see which ones are leaning . The shell holder will only hold the base , if the length of the case is leaning , you might get the result you are getting. Sizing them and turning 1/4 turn sizing again 4 times MAY help, but that is just a guess.
