Reloading 30-30 for plinking or targets

Hey guys. I want to reload some 30-30 shells for plinking or for just general target shooting. I'm wondering if I can use a inexpensive .308 pistol bullet around the 90 to 110 grain size? I was told by someone that you have to use a Flat Nose bullet in a Winchester Model 94 becaause of the tubular magazine. If that's true, then my choices are limited. Anyone have a recommended load?

P.S. Yes, you need round or flat nose bullets, if you load more than two rounds in a tube magazine rifle.

Plinking bullets

Did you think about lead (alloy) bullets? Excellent light load plinkers.

With the 110 Sierra HP a recommended accuracy load is 27.2 grains of IMR4198, according to Ken Water's Pet Loads. I had 1 1/2 inch groups on a calm day at 100 yards with this load.

I never had luck with the 100 grain half jackets(?)

Lee 150/170 gr flatnose gas check in 20:1 or wheelweights + 2% tin with 14gr H110 powder.

Around here a lot of the gun stores have some of the Winchester factory component bullets bulk packed in 100's... about $15 for a bag of 150 grain Power Points. They shoot well and you can't beat the price.
