I have an old savage 1899 in 300 Savage. It has not been fired in about 50 years. It was my Grandfather he passed in 1962. I was given it at age 18 It is in good condition I clean it monthly.

I have desided to load some rounds for it. "see what it is like" What would you recomend. IE powered, Bullet, brass

I have good results with RL 15 or IMR4895 with 165 gr Hornady flat base spire points. I have some 150 gr test loads done with the same powders but I haven't tried them yet. I get around 1 1/2" groups at 100 yards with my 99F. Follow the loads in any good manual and you should be good to go. I'm presently using Winchester brass.

I would just use the Hodgdon loads. H4895 tends to be a good powder, and Hodgdon says you can load down to 60% of the max listed load for it. You you could put some light loads through it if you wanted.
