I was thinking someone here has had experience shooting cast bullets in their 303 Lee Enfield. How accurate are they compared to a quality jacketed bullet ??? Or are they just cheap ammo ??? Jack

They can be about as accurate as jacketed, if the proper hardness of alloy is used, and velocity stays sane. They can certainly be alot more accurate than anyone I know can hold, unless using a bench rest.

I use a 185 grain gas checked round nose for reaching out to the 200 yard line, and a 93 grain .32 caliber round nose pistol bullet over bullseye for short range plinking loads (25-75 yards). I'm not getting world class accuracy, but I hit what I shoot at (clays and whatnot), and it's fun to shoot without Stre$$ing out about my university students budget, and after all, I'm shooting a 100 dollar sporter, not an anshutz.

I also don't use a scope much, so I don't try to hit dimes at 100 yards. I hit a can of sodapop spray-painted blaze orange at the 125 yard line on the first try, offhand; when I was out with my buddies once. (offhand from the seated position, I'm in a wheelchair)

If one spends enough time and effort, you can at least equal. factory or jacketed reload accuracy. It takes time as there are more variables with cast bullets and more things to take into account. I do alot of this testing, using jacketed or factory loads as a baseline, and i usually end up with some real nice groups, but usually much less velocity except in the bigger bores.

Intersting !!! Any problem leading the barrel ??? I am just get back into shooting and my interest is leaning towards the old/newer #4 's just something special about them to me for some reason or other. Jack

This site has a ton of info on cast.

With a hard lead alloy and gas checks (GC), they seem to be able to get 2000 fps or maybe a bit more with leading or slipping the rifling.

I was concerned about using cast lead in a gas operated semi rifle. I wondered if the lead would plug up the gas port, but that does not seem to be a problem.
One of the guys on that board is also on here, and he fires lots of lead through his Norinco M14.

I shoot a lot of lead through my 303 brit, 7.62 x 54 R, 8x58 r, For plinking look at loads with unique or 2400. For military cartriges bigger then 7.62x39, standard plinking loads with 150-200 grain boolets, 10 grains of unique or 16 grains of 2400. 8-10 grains of trail boss works well too. 2400 can push a bullet well into hunting velocities to. Check the manuals for those loads
