Reloading .308 What powder?

It is generally recommended to load between 147-173gr bullets for the M1 Garand or M14 using standard jacketed bullet loads.

A powder in the suitable burn rate range for the action of this type of semi auto gas rifle such as IMR 4895, H4895, AA 2495, BL C2, H335, Win 748, IMR 4064 (and there are others).

Full Length size all brass every loading and trim when needed. Make sure primers are seated flush. CCI and Win are good primers to use for these rifles.

I use the manuals starting load data and work up the same as any for the powders/bullets noted above.

Reloading manual big time and follow the recipe until you become proficient in this and then you can start experimenting with loads and different powders.

I'd suggest you get a reloading manual and read manufactures webpages...

Varget is a cheap but solid runner. There are others but I'm not informed enough to make recommendations.

Always follow the books guidlines and start loads at safe levels (below book maxes)

I have assembled very accurate loads for several 308 chambered rifles using IMR 4320. Its a touch slower than 4064. It never gets much press but seems to shine in mid size cartridges.

Just not in the gas fed M14. Again Zediker sayeth 'thou shalt not use any powder slower than 4064 in thy M14.' Thus sayeth the Gospel according to Zediker.

i have had great results with 48gr of W748 or IIRC 44.5gr of IMR4895 with 150gr sierras. That is not a m14 mind you but a savage bolt. Many deer and one elk have fallen to this setup

I use H4895 with great results in both my M305 and .308 Savage Axis - usually 41 to 41.5 gr for both with 165 gr Hornady Interlock bullets (hunting load - don't have one for just plinking at targets).
