Reloading 358 Winchester BLR

I recently ended up with two sets of dies for a 358 Win so tossing the idea around of having a barrel spun up for it to mount on my tikka. Very tempting look at this post.

Also 310gr Woodleigh @ 2100 fps mv good penetration on Moose interesting round to handload.

Good idea - KS Arms in Edmonton did this one, contoured the barrel to Tikka's contour and set in a McMillan stock. Took deer and bear with it, maybe bull moose in a few more draw years.

The Speer flat point hot cor with BLC-2 is supposed to be THE bullet according to the deceased uncle that had my BLR for years. Have them in 180 through 220gr., I have yet to load them, as I have a big jar of those core lokts and haven't hunted it much. But I think I may make it a regular thing.

I’ve always had great luck with Hornady 200gr SP or RN. I’d show you a picture of what they look like after striking game but I’ve never found one, always 2 holes! :) I’m not sure about the slow monicker, pretty sure you can’t get a 308 with 200gr bullets going over 2500fps. I’m getting excellent results with 3031.

My bad, just checked the Hodgdon website and with BL-C2 and CFE 223 they’re getting over 2500fps in a 308 and 200gr SP. Still, the 358 is way cooler.

I like the 358, I have a Winchester 88, a Savage 99, a BLR and a custom Weatherby Vanguard in it. It’s my go to caliber for hunting in the brush.
