Hi.
I am thinking of reloading 40 S&W

I was reading the LEE book and the statement said “Do not use reloads in Glock or similar guns with chambers that do not fully support the cartridge due to intrusion of the feed ramp”

Lyman’s book says basically the same thing.

Can someone explain what they mean by:

1. unsupported chambers?

2. what firearms would the above include? &

3. has anyone experienced difficulty when using reloads in a Glock

hi mike , the unsupported chamber means part of the casing is not coverd by the chamber(if you take your barrel out and put a bullet in it you will notice a small part of the casing is exposed) this can be a factor if you don't inspect your cases for buldging in that area.
i reload for my G22 and have never had an issue , the only limitation is that you cannot use lead bullets with the factory barrel. i do not recommend using max load data for the G22 but a safe load has never affected any of my cases and they have functioned flawlessly. happy reloading.:)
 
The one issue you should watch for is "Glock bulged" cases when reloading.

Due to the exposed area there is often an notable bulge in the case wall at the bottom.

If you do not fully resize your glock cases you might experience failure to feed issues as the bluge does not always line up again with the unsupported area.
 
I reload for my Glock 22, all my brass is 3-F now and no ka-booms.

Stay with the low to midrange loads and you should have no problems.

Also make sure your dies "iron out" the bulge. I use Lee dies and I have no problems.

if any of my cases are bulged i throw them in the scrap box and i only reload my 40 cal casings 2x and then throw them in the scrap box to make sure i have no problems. i use cast bullets in my 96d using a mid range load with no problems. 40 cal brass is plentiful so i do not worry about a supply.
 
you can use lead bullets in a glock...but be careful that you clean the gun regularly (2-300rds wont do anything), and just watch for lead build up on the rifling. the polygonal rifling tends to let lead build up causing changes in pressure that can blow out the barrel. Again, not an issue if you clean it regularly
