I have a couple of .410 shotguns and would dearly like to reload for them. I advertised for a Lee Loader kit and was offered one for $100!! Does anyone have any other ideas. I just bought a nice little Mossberg bolt action from cardguy, and the fired hulls from it will chamber easily in my NEF/H&R Pardner. It seems that I would only need to recharge with powder, wad and shot. Any ideas on how to start and crimp?? Does anybody have experience with the MEC 600 Jr. in .410? I'll try another want ad in the EE for a Lee Loader kit. Thanks.

I discussed fireforming 303 brass for 410 shot shells in this thread.

Once you have your shells made their are no special tools required. Something to pop the primers I was using a 308 case length guage attached to a cleaning rod. One tap of a hammer and the primers out.

Reprimed with a lee autoprime with the shellholder for 303. Add powder. I've decided that commercial wads at 11.00 per 500 are the easiest way to go. Now in my case I am casting 000 buckshot round balls and just fit them into the wad and cram down the case. You could fill the wad with lead shot as per your loading instructions.

And you are good to go. Buckshot loads cost almost 2.00 a round here and mine are costing me a little time and about a nickle.

Have fun

I've loaded several thousand .410 on a MEC single stage loader. It works great. The biggest problem they have is seperating the hull from the tube on the priming stage. Sometimes the fit is so tight that the hull won't release. There are attachments that can help with this though.

You should be able to find a used Jr for under $100. Finding someone who is selling one is the trick.

Wow!! Thanks for the quick responses - and especially for not being snarled at for "not doing a search" before asking a dumb question. I love this forum, as it extends one's experience worldwide. I'll read the thread on loading .303 shells, and continue to look for a Lee Loader. Thanks again!:):)
