Light recoil compared to my 458 Lott 500gr@2300 fps mv.

500 grains at 2300 FPS...Any idea what the pressure is on that load??? I have loaded 500 grain JRN (with nose filed flat so ~ 490 grain) at much lesser velocity and it is pretty convincing that you don't want to shoot those all day. If memory serves, it was a compression load, even with that big case volume.

Other than 700x, the next most poundage of a single powder is 3031. So that's my 45-70 powder. Years ago I had a H&R single shot, didn't much care for it. It went down the road while I was still in Langley, but I recently found forgotten reloading, about 250 projectile and 100 cases, digging in the storage semi. It's like Christmas, every time I go there.

I've had awesome results reloading 45/70 using a remington brass case, cci large rifle primer,h322 powder and 300 grain Hornady interlock bullets.im not overly experienced in reloading but range results were beyond expectations, maybe I just got lucky.
