Hi everyone,

I have been researching on ways to reload for this magnificent Swiss rifle. From what I understand most people use .308 bullets for their rifle and seat the bullet at around 3.060" for the K11. I found this load for the rifle at

http://www.swissrifles.com/sr/pierre/data.html

Sierra Match king 175gr:
4064......................42gr
4350......................45.8gr

It uses a 308 bullet HPBT. This bullet is very expensive and I am looking for a substitute. I am leaning towards using the 30 Cal Bullets by PPU, 174gr FMJ BT instead.

My question is.

Is it safe to substitute a different make of bullet in load data? In this case both are boat tails and both are 174-176 grains so almost the exact same. The only big difference is that one is a hollow point.

If anyone has there own reloads for this cartridge I would love to hear it as well.

Never bothered as GP11 is SOOOOO accurate, but I've run out. Going to need to roll my own too, so I'll be watching this thread. What are you using for brass?

I know one guy who is reloading the GP11 cases... he's using a wooden dowel, water and a hammer to pop out the Berdan primers!!!!!!! Takes a long time, but it works!

OP, PPU bullets may be cheap but if you're looking for consistent/predictable accuracy??????

PPU offers match quality bullets that are very good and I use some of them.

Most of the offerings out there are from their bulk packs to distributors and have been repackaged.

They will work fine in your K11, but performance from package to package and even within the same package will differ. Maybe not enough to worry about for plinking purposes but if you're going to get into club milsurp shooting, you're going to need all of the accuracy you can get.

Depending on individual club rules, some of the folks shooting those milsurps, use top quality match bullets, especially if the bores on their rifles are pristine and warrant the extra quality.

When it comes to bullet quality, you get what you pay for.

I'd pass on the FMJ's by PRVI, never found any of them very accurate.
I do shoot the 168gr BTHP and they are pretty decent.

I shoot 150gr Win PPSP bullets /IMR4895/44gr.....Privi brass....out of a K31....OAL 2.893" yours may vary.... .652" 3 shot 100 yard group. Deer relaxer.

that's the easy part, try finding berdan primers.

Anyone actually used any of the loads on the Swissrifle.com?

For my K31 I actually shoot 150gr Hornady FMJ, they are pretty much match bullets, I use Varget and 308 Win loads for 2650fps. Never bothered with anything else in the Swiss as these shoot really good. I also use 284 Win brass as when I started loading there was no 7.5x55 brass around. I'm not sure how many times I've loaded these (neck sized) but at least 8 times now.
GP11 on the left, 284 neck sized on the right with 150gr Hornady FMJ. They have short headspace, but wide chambers cases blow out quite a bit. Using 308 Win data is safe and keeps pressures nice as low, at least with the midrange speed powders based on the case volumes. I wouldn't run too slow or too fast of a powder in these, mid range stiff works well

165 Hornady BTSP Interlock has been VG in a G11 long rifle. First starting load was a 5 shot, 1" high by 2.5" wide group at 100 yds, that included some degree of horizontal sighting error because of aiming at the base of the target to get on paper. That's remarkable for iron sights.

The G11/K11 rifles aren't nearly as picky about bullets as the K31. Next project with this rifle will be PC cast, 180 and 200 gr.

I think that I will start with some PPU 176 grains bullets to start and see where it goes. My K11 has a mint condition bore so Im hoping for decent results at least 3.5 inches at 100 yards

I reload gp11 brass. I got the idea off YouTube. You modify a lee decaping die.

Pops the primer and converts brass to boxer. I then peen the primer pocket with a ball bearing. Clean it out with a primer pocket rocket reamer. And your good to go. I load with cast lee 155 grain bullets

So does a socket extension in place of the dowel and place the brass in a shell holder on a piece of plywood and a towel on a concrete floor.

Hi Farmhandyo,
It has been a few weeks since your original post. I'm wondering if you tried the swissrifles.com recipe yet. If so, how did it turn out? If not, what have you decided to reload/shoot with?
Regards

I'm getting close to needing to reload for my K11 and K31s, so this is all excellent info, gents. I hoarded G11 ammo when it was cheap, still have a few cases to go.

I have been reloading the gp11 brass, having used the rcbs berdan decapper. Once you get the hang of it , the primers come out easy. I have been using the Russian berdan primers but havent seen any for sale for quite some time.

This is the route I went as well. I tried the hydraulic method first and could never get it to work well. Berger vld for projectiles. I managed to match the accuracy of gp11, but never could beat it. Half inch horizontal spread with 1 inch of vertical stringing.

Bowmac Gunpar in Ontario has GP11 Berdan Primers for GP11 brass for sale
