reloading 7.62x39

Why would those who can't or won't reload the 7.62X39 even read this thread, much less post on it? Go start another thread on cleaning corrosive and leave us alone.

The 7.62X39 is a great round to reload, but to enjoy it most, I think you need a bolt or single shot rifle (unless you don't mind manually cycling your SKS, Rasheed or other semi-auto). I particularly like heavy cast bullets at sub-sonic MV's. It doesn't use much powder, and likes powders faster than H335 best. The Higginsons surplus WC-735 is a great and inepensive powder for it. There are many molds suitable for it, including the many 30 Cal molds, particularly the "fat" one that drop at 0.311" right for the mold. Try a 220gr at about 700 fps!

I love reloading for the 7.62 x 39 have been doing so for the past five years for both my Yugo and Chinese SKS. The first thing I do when I get a new firearm is set up to reload for it long term,I don't plan on surplus or commercial ammo always being available, that point proved itself out about a year ago when there was no X39 ammo to be found. While everyone else was crying I was shooting.

Anyways I've probably shot and worked up loads for my SKS rifle with ever .310 to .311 bullet there is from 123 to 190 grs. with the exception of the Barnes all copper bullet,it's a great bullet just to costly for my needs. My favorite powders are Reloader#7 and IMR/H-4198.

I like shooting cast bullets in my SKS rifles the Lee TL 160 gr. gas check mold works great in both my SKS rifles as well as a couple other calibers I shoot them as cast and apply the GC with the Lee .314 push through sizer. The bullets get two thin coats of my Alox/Johnson Paste Wax mix once before and one after applying the GC. In my Chinese 12.5 grs. of Alliant 2400 cycles my Chinese with no problem as drops the brass right at my feet MV is just over 1500 fps on the chrono the 15.0 gr. max load will throw the brass several feet and gives a MV very close to 2000 fps. with the 165 gr. bullet.

My Yugo requires 14.5 grs. of 2400 to cycles without a hitch but the brass stays close by. A few of my loads.
