Hello

I just bought a fantastic Mauser C96 in 7,63mm Mauser.
does anybody reload this caliber ?
any hints or advices ?

I have a Lock'n load Hornady but didn't find the corresponding shell plate.

Any comments appreciated.

thanks.

As you know don't use the too hot Tokarev loads in it.I have almost all RCBS gear so not sure which plate the .223 may work? Call Hornady they should be able to help.
Cartridges of the World 86gr bullet......4.5gr- Bullseye/1160fps Unique-6gr/1230fps

Wolf springs used to ship Mauser 96 spring kits into Canada that had beefed up springs to allow the use of surplus ammo.

Supposedly the Soviets, who inherited a bunch of them from the Czarists, felt they should be able to handle the Tok ammo.

That being said, ever C96 I've seen, where the owner has fired a bunch of Tok ammo, has had broken recoil springs and often broken parts.

As mentioned, the 9x19 shell holder is the same. Make sure you full length resize your brass.

The load mentioned is OK, I prefer 7.5 grains of 800X, which I would consider maximum, as it is a bit slower but gives slightly higher velocities, zero malfunctions and is cleaner. Just IMHO.

There are still some replacement parts available for these pistols but they need to be fitted. The pistol I had was in excellent condition, inside and out. Still, I replace the original springs with a kit from Wolf Sprins out of the US.

C96 pistols actually need a fairly hot load to function reliably and I would suggest you start a full grain lower until you find the load that functions with consistent reliability.

Hornady gave me the #8 shell plate as a reference but they don't have standard dies for the 7,63 mauser also called the 30 mauser.
does somebody know what are the RCBS or Dillon reference for this caliber ?

Congrats to your new Acquisition.

I load now again for this caliber unfortunately my old loading Data disappeared with an obsolete Computer. My most recent Loads using 86 Grain RN Hornadys pushed by 5.0 Grain Unique ignited by a Win SP Standart Primer failed to eject the Shells. Obviously to mild a load so will have to work up the new loads.

No problem with Fiochi Factory Rounds.

Cheers

I use 5 grain of red dot in mine, gives abt 1250 fps.
Also have used Tokarev ammo after pulling the bullets and reducing powder charge from 10 to 8 grain, about same velocity, but it being corrosive the barrel needs a good washing out with hot water.
For that I use a small handheld steamer, fill it to the top so it produces lots of hot water and steam.
