A friend has asked me to reload 8ga shotgun shells for seismic work. The shells are primed with normal primers but loaded with black powder and sealed with a plastic disc and hot glue. He has all of the homemade equipment to reload this stuff. My question here is what extra precautions I should take re-loading black powder? Does anyone make reloading equipment for 8ga? Any other advice would be nice. Thanks

Reload by hand like other BP shotshells, get punches to make wads(.835") out of card stock, and felt, throw BP by scoop or BP powder measure, roll crimp attach. for drill avail. from Ballistic Products.....the light load was 1 3/4 oz. of shot with 5 drams of powder....you may have to experiment with this as modern black is not as effective as most of the obsolete Black powders.

If you need supplies or tooling, you may wish to check out the web site http://www.ballisticproducts.com as they have nitro card wads, hulls, and roll crimping tools for loading all gauges up to 8 gauge. I just checked there first before posting. I have used Ballistic Products for probably 15 years for reloading lead and steel hunting and target ammunition. They appear to have the know how for about everything. I'd give them a ring if I had any shotshell reloading questions.
