I am hoping one of you can give me a hand with a new load for the 8x56r.
I switched from H4895 to D4064 powder (IMR data) I'm using a ppu 208gr bullet. If anyone has a load I would appreciate it.
I did look through lots of online forums but most are out of the US and use the Hornady 205gr bullet.

The powders are so close in Burn rate that I'd simply use your H4895 data for the D4064.

If you have a chronograph use a D4064 load that gives an MV no higher than what you achieve from your proven H4895 loads.
 
From my M95 I have the following:

PPU factory 2230 fps

44 gr 4895 2140 fps
45 gr 4895 2230 fps
46 gr 4895 2250 fps. all with PPU bullets 208 gr

Have not tried 4064, but like Andy said they are very similar
 
I wouldn't worry about the THREE grain difference between bullet weights, unless there's a big difference in ogive shape, which might cause more bearing surface on one.

Even then, it shouldn make to much difference as both of the bullets you mention are very close in shape.

That M95 straight pull action is quite strong, a lot of them were converted for the 8x57JS Mauser round by adding internal lips for feeding and swithching out the bolt heads.
 
Thank you all for your input. I don't have a chronograph so I have to just watch the casings for signs of over or under pressure. I didn't realize the powders were so close in burn rate that makes things easy as I was putting 44.5gr of H4895 so I'll copy that and see how it goes! Thank you all again!
 
A guy on the same forum recommends buying the Lee .338 mold instead of their .329 and them resize to .334 Nice groups at 50 yards using LEE 220gr .338 cast with 36gr of IMR4350 and a COW compressed fill. 1708fps and one ragged hole 5 shot group.Might be cheaper than buying jacketed.

Some useful load info there - thanks. In the US there is a huge amount of very slow surplus ball powder available and it's common to use full cases with Magnum primers to burn it off for cheap plinking. Any powder slower than 4831 can be used that way in the 8X56R. I use US869, as I have 6-7 pounds of it.

I have done that with both 0.338" cast and jacketed, but only sized them down to 0.332" (to suit my guns) using a Custom Sizer, although the useful Lee 0.329" can be opened up. cast bullets must be chosen with deepest possible lube grooves as sizign down six thou takes a big bite out of their capacity.
