I'm still pretty new to reloading. I started out with a single stage press and I only used HS 6 (6 GRNS).
I found it pretty good power. I just switched to a Dillon press at the same time I though to try Win 231 powder(3.5 GRNS min load). I'm loading for a 9mm Glock. The HS6 worked great but I'm finding since I switched to Win 231 my Glock will stove pipe , fail to eject just plain didn't work well at all. I had some more HS6 loads with me and tried them it worked great. Whats up with this? Same bullet in each, the manual said to seat the Win 231 deeper(1.090") then the HS6 was seated(1.150"). Same casings.

Double check your manual. I have not seen any data that would require a different seating depth when the only change is the powder.

Plus I agree with bnichols that 3.5 grns of 231 is a very mild load.

When I started I was useing the Speer manual for HS6. I used the
Lyman 49th manual for the Win 231.

Consult your manual, but the powder weight range for W231 and that bullet is probably quite wide (3.5 - 4.7 or 4.9 gr?), so you should be safe "starting" with a larger load.

My Glock (all Glocks?) is really finicky but 4.1 - 4.3 gr of HP38 with a Hornady 115 gr HP-XTP has been giving good results lately (1.100 OAL) but that might be the phase of the moon. There may be a difference between HP38 and W231 but I don't know what it is.

Hornady 4th edition list W-231 loads for a FMJ-RN at 4.5 for 1050 feet per second, up to 5.1 for 1150 FPS. COL 1.105"
So 3.5 of W-231 is whats causing the stove pipe.
I use W-231 for my 9mm as well.

If you go to the Hogdon web site , they have a reloading data section. They have data for the 9mm for both HS6 and Win231 for the various bullets. You can them compare both powders, cartridge length etc for the various heads sorted today.

It is good information.

I also 231 for 9mm . It can be a little dirty but other than that it is a good powder.

Good luck.

You need more powder! I used to load 4.6 gr. of 231 with a 124 plated RN Frontier bullet, Glocks need a decent load since the factory recoil spring is 17 lbs. Either change to a lighter spring which also means an after market guide rod or use more powder.

Direct from the Winchester Reloading Manual in PDF format available on their site.

3.5 grains is way low for 115gr CMJ.
Start between the lead and FMJ loads.
