Reloading beginner needs help with brass pricing.

I am very green when it comes to reloading and have a question. I plan to reload 40S&W for my pistol during the winter months. At my range, another member shoots 40 and typically puts his empty brass into a box and leaves it for me to collect. Add this to my spent brass, and I have a little over a thousand once fired CCI brass. Now I know I have way more than necessary, but if I plan to sell some of the brass to help fund a small percentage of my reloading equipment, how much is 1000 once fired CCI brass in 40S&W worth? I honestly have no clue as to pricing it.
 
I agree with p210sig, I would not pay more than $40 per 1000 for once fired 40 S&W brass. If I was down to 1000 brass for any of my pistols I would probably start panicking. 1000 rounds is not a lot of ammo once you get into shooting more, but if it will fund your shooting now I guess it is OK to sell some brass.
