Reloading buckshot , what buffer?

I've decided to try and load some 12 ga buckshot ammo.. I'm wondering what could be used as a buffer agent rather than a commercial product , like Grex...
Would cornmeal or cream of wheat work?...I'm asking as I would have to special order commercial buffer.... Any suggestions or thoughts loading buckshot in general also?

Cornmeal will work, but be sure to consider the weight of the meal in the load.
