I have a Benelli R1 in 3006 that I want to use for moose hunting this fall ( or possible deer hunting in places where the bush is thicker ) so I'm looking for accuracy and hitting power to 200 -400 yards/ meters max, with more focus in the 100-200 yard/meter range.
My understanding is that i should stay a round nose bullet and slower speeds which reduces potential deflection from small branches? Is this correct? I know the best plan is not to shoot where there is the potential of any branches but I have found that no one explained this to the animal I'm hunting.

Has anyone worked up any load recipes for a Benelli R1 semi in 3006?
When reloading for a semi what differences do I need to take into account vs reloading for my bolt actions? Ie seating depth from LANs etc

First and foremost, you must have functional reliability for your semi-auto rifle......If, through trial and error, you find that only round nosed bullets will function reliably in your rifle, then that is what you must use.......Hopefully, such is not the case, and with the quality of a Benelli R1, you should get away with using spitzer styled bullets for higher BC, which translates into flatter trajectories and more retained energy downrange.......For moose, a 180 grain Accubond from Nosler or an Interbond from Hornady of the same weight will get the job done on moose or deer from muzzle to over 300 yards........Consider using IMR4350 powder..(never a mistake in the '06)....

I have yet to see the bullet that will chop wood, stack it, and still continue on to take your game animal, so go with whatever pill your rifle will digest....
