Reloading for Mosin Nagant Sniper Rifle

Hey Guys,

So I wanted to reload for my Mosin Nagant sniper rifle. I currently have PPU and some S&B brass, however I wanted to find some high quality 147 grain bullets so that I could load it to Milspec and keep the scope calibrated. However the only 147 grain bullets i can find for the Mosin Nagant (as I believe they are .311 bullets) are surplus. Anyone have any recommendations (or any loads they have worked out that work well in the Mosin Nagant Sniper Rifle? Thanks in advance.
 
Use a 150. Three grains won't matter. Although a sniper rifle will shoot best with match grade bullets. Sierra makes a 174 grain Matchking. You'll have to sight the scope in anyway.
 
Hornady, Speer and Sierra all make a 150 gr bullet for the 303Brit. That is what you want to find. Compared to a 147 military bullet, those soft points are "match quality". The flat bases will help, too.

I am about to shoot my MN Sniper with milsurp 147 and 185 and some handholds with 174 Sierra match.

As for loads......what powder do you plan on using? Milspec is ~2800 fps with a 150gr projectile

Ya I have looked over budget shooter supply. I was worried about the 3 grain difference with regards to the scope calibration though. I was going to go over some reloading manuals and see what ones they recommend and then see from there what would be best. Although currently I have some H4895

Hopefully it doesnt make a difference. How much difference would it be with the Matchking?

Please let me know how it goes with the handloads and match ammo.
 
A buddy shoots his with Sierra 174 gr SMK's........I have several plain and hex MN 91/30's that shoot as well or better than the scoped sniper versions do with irons.Harold
