In another thread regarding pressure signs on primers, the comments were that cratered primers are not anything to worry about. Does this also apply to pistol primers as well? Here are pics of 2 of my 9mm reloads that show a "flattened crater":
These were from a load development test. Using CCI small pistol primers and W231, I made 5 each of 3.5gr, 3.6gr, 3.7gr, 3.8gr, 3.9gr, and these were from the 3.9gr string. This began to show up at 3.7 gr, with 2 out of 5 showing the first signs of this.
I do hope this isn't an issue, because the 3.9 gr load was the tightest. I'm using Win brass fired in my Shadow, with the Campro 124gr SWC plated bullets. So am I pushing the limits according to these primers?
As well, if anyone has some loads that use these components, that work well in their Shadow, please chime in; I'm new to reloading for 9mm.
