I am hoping to pick the brains of those familiar with the 460 S&W. From looking online I have not been able to find any load data for the 460 S&W with the Hornady 200 grain FTX projectile (SKU: 45215). I would like to use H110 and was looking for Start load, Max Load, COL and Trim Length.

The other question I have is, I have heard the factory loaded FTX rounds (SKU: 9152) for this calibre uses shorter brass than standard brass due to the FTX plastic tip. Is this true? Thank you for any help or direction.

On hodgdons website they list a 200gr bullet at 45gr start and Max 46.5gr. With h110.

I highly doubt they would have shorter brass, they don't with my 500mag brass with flex tip.

Stick with the same weight and roughly the same bullet shape, if it was me I would start at 45gr of h110 with the bullet seated to the cannelure.

Notes: case: Starline; bbl: 10.743"; PR: Winchester LRM; twist: 1:20"; trim: 1.790" - This data was developed with Starline Brass which was designed for use with large rifle type primers. Some brands of brass were designed solely for use with large pistol primers. Check with the manufacturer of the brass for correct primer usage. Rifle primers used in a pistol primer pocket cannot be seated sufficiently deep to be below flush with the casehead, which could result in sympathetic ignition of other rounds in the cylinder during recoil. Such use may result in damage to the firearm and/or result in injury or death of the shooter and/or bystander. Never exceed loads listed.

carsmovies,

Thanks for the data. The data for the FTX projectile was exactly what I was looking for. May I ask where you got the data from? Was it a reloading manual? If so, which one as I would like to get that one.

It's from a site www.loaddata.com but you have to pay a yearly subscription fee for it. I find it funny that they categorize the S&W 460 XVR as a rifle.

I load the 200gr FTX with 52.0 grains of H-110, no pressure signs and relatively easy extraction. Brass doesn't have to be shorter, just seat to the canelure (sp.). I can't remember what caliber it is that the brass needs to be trimmed shorter for the FTX, but I know it's not the 460.

Go buy the Hornady number 9 manual. Lot's of data.
Hodgdon website? More data.
Did you try google search 460 s&w reloading?

Where did you look that you couldn't find data? Your Google-fu is weak.

You're thinking of the 45/70 to run FTX bullets.

Seagull,

Thank you very much for the picture. I have the Hornady manual on order. Does the Hornady manual also list trim lengths as well in it?
