I starting to reload for a Sako A7 300 win mag. I've been doing a little checking and the twist is 11:1 where as most rifles that I have seen at 300 win mag are 10:1 (currently loading 200 gr ELDX at 2850 fps for a 10:1 300 win mag for fantastic groups) Anybody have experience with twist 11:1 at this caliber?
I'm guessing with the faster twist a light bullet will be better suited.

Looking for bullet selection and expected velocities.

The slower 1-11 twist in the tikka may not shoot the 200's without keyholing, it may work fine too. Sakos 1-10 twist work just fine with 210-220 grn . Try them out.

Actually I think it's the opposite. 1:11 is slower than 1:10. Goes 11 inches to do one rev rather 10 in. At least that is how I understand it. And my Sako is 11:1 according to literature. So you think lighter if twist is 11?
Thanks for the reply.

I have the same gun also chambered in 300 Win Mag and Hornady 208 gr AMAX's at 2900 fps shoot well from it. The load is all the Retumbo I can squeeze in. Next up, a compressed load of Reloder 33 - probably too slow for a 208, but on my "want to try" list.

Sako goes with relatively slow twists on all their guns. The twist for the 22-250 is 1:14!

My Sako 85 is 1-10. Ya 1-11 is slower....didn't state otherwise? Shoot it I'm sure it will be fine.
