Good afternoon,
I am looking for a good recipe for my Grandfathers Winchester 1895 in .303 British.
I am going to be shooting it this summer.
Unfortunately the rifle is on the other side of the country, therefore I have to reload without having access to the rifle.
I have a couple of hundred pieces of brass some of it military brass.
I am looking for,
a good accurate hunting bullet,
and appropriate powder??
Thanks for looking,
wcmd.

Best place to look for old recipes would be in Grammas recipe drawer.

A recipe is a set of instructions that describe how to prepare or make something.
A recipe for .303 British served out of a Winchester 1895.

You probably will have to wait for the rifle to find an accurate load but most of the 303's do best with a heavier bullet (174 or 180 gr). If it is an older rifle then I would be gentle on the powder charge of whatever powder you choose ( many powders work with the 303). Good luck and enjoy.

I'd be inclined to stick with cast bullets. There's some 180 grain cast bullet data on .303british.com. Not much point in reloading if you don't have the rifle though.

X2 on the cast bullet suggestion.
I dont know why but my search for .311 bullets has turned up exactly 4 boxes of 174 grain Sierra match in the entire city of Edmonton.
At 40 dollars/100 for Sierra's casting is looking better and better every day.

"...my search for .311 bullets..." Not really a huge demand for 'em. Hornady makes .312" bullets. Speer makes 150 and 180 grain .311" bullets. Federal ammo uses Speer Hot-Cor bullets.
Don't think an 1895 would have the variable barrel diameter issue Lee-Enfields do.
