At the gun show today I was asking questions about reloading for my 25-35 Winchester 94 and one guy said that I will have to cast my own bullets. Is this true or is there a company where I can buy jacketed bulletsÉ. I want to reload for this gun inparticular because the ammo costs are getting crazy but Im not really wanting to start to mould my bullets. Thanks Guys.

You can load pointed bullets as long as you load them single shot or just one in the chamber and 1 in the magazine.

You can get some decent velocities in a .25-35 with 60 gr. or 87 gr bullets.

I used to load 18 grs of 2400 with the 60 gr Winchester hollow point and 30 grs of 3031 with the 87 gr.

Not sure if this comment is 100 per cent correct. You may wish to try
the pointed one in the mag tube first without one in the chamber.
The cartridge button/follower may push the point of the bullet off to one side
making the path into the chamber awkward.
I didn't have much luck with it.

I shoot my Winny 25-35 with either 90 gr. or 117 gr. bullets. They are pushed by 24.5 and 25.3 gr. of IMR 3031 respectively. Tried the 117s with 24 gr. of Varget with little difference. As long as you keep the overall length the same 25.50, both should cycle thru the action. I have had no trouble and this caliber is great for deer.

The ballistics of the 25-35 shows an average of about 2200 fps. I hit my deer with open sights with the 117 gr.at 165 yards or so. It ran 30 feet and dropped.

Many of these older calibers are far too often under estimated in the performance they are capable of. The deer at a suitable distance for your gun are not hard to hit and place a killing shot. Open sights or low power scopes atop a non-magnum rifle can be a pleasure to shoot. I do not own a magnum rifle and see no need for one. Each year I hunted, the tags got filled.

It is a great cartridge with jacketed bullets available for reloading, it did not prove to be a very accurate cast bullet gun due to it's very fast twist of 1-8 or some such.
