Reloading gear?

I am going to start to slowly gather the things I need to get into reloading for long range shooting with a .223 and for short range hunting in my .303 and was wondering what brand gear a person should look at. I was looking at RCBS and Redding but am not sure on which. Also what should I look at for powder dispenser and scale? Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

it all depends what kind of money you want to spend, Dillon 1050 is at the top of the scale and lee anniversary kit is near the bottom. I went with the RCBS Supreme Deluxe Kit from Cabelas since it came with the RC Supreme Press, Charge Master 1500 Dispenser Combo, Trim Mate, Trim Pro Kit, Universal Hand Priming Tool, Speer #14 Reloading Manual, Quick-Change Funnel Kit, Precisioneered Handloading DVD, Case Slick, Universal Case Loading Block and Die Lock Ring Wrench all for less then I could buy it separately. all you need to do then is buy your components and dies and your ready to roll your own. I went with Redding Dies instead of RCBS as I felt they were better made.
 
An RCBS starter kit is perfect and the press and scales will last a lifetime. I would definitely suggest using a single stage press for rifle ammo. The rock chucker supreme is a darned fine press. As for powder dispensers, they should come with the kit but investing in a powder trickler is a good idea. Nobody ever went wrong with an RCBS kit.

This is excellent advice. I'll chime in and tell you from my recent experience to buy the best dies you can afford. I have a couple of less expensive die sets sitting here in the drawer now because they weren't able to give me the level of precision and consistency that I needed. If I was going to do it all over again I would still buy my RCBS Rock Chucker kit but I'd go straight to Redding dies.
 
Don't overlook the Forester equipment.

I have used and sold just about every make in the last 40 years.

I now use mostly Forester Bonanza, Redding, and RCBS dies in that order.. and I prefer the Forester Bonanza Co Ax press, and Forester case trimmer. The Bonanza Benchrest Powder measure is probably the most accurate measure, it beats the RCBS measure. An old Ohaus 10-10 scale is as accurate as anything.

I have mostley RCBS and shoot tight at 1000. I was looking into some Redding equipment as i was looking to start adding higher end gear. When i went to order from sinclair, some of there techs are very avid 1000 guys and also told me not to over look forester. Alot of there stuff is better than redding ive found... for half the $

It is a mixture of many different brands. Each company seems to have a strength in one area or another. I get to see it all, use whatever works for my needs, keep searching for the next best widget.

Some costs, some dont. It all works for what I want to do to make competition ammo.

I went the Lee anniversary kit way and it was nice and cheap. I still like it and use it. I did have one issue though. A broken part in the picture below. I wil tel you their customer suport was great and sent me a new one free.

No I m hoping to start in the spring. Ive been shooting alot of 22 bench this year.

I have a mixture of Lyman and rcbs. Both companies make really good stuff. Started with the basic Lyman kit and went from there. U don't necissarily need all the goodies right off the bat. Just start Rollin and you'll figure out pretty fast what u need and what u don't.
 
An addictive pastime, and one that you can really get serious on.

I bought a Dillon Press, Redding and RCBC Competition dies, and a mixture of other manufacturers equipment. (Dillon scale / Sinclair trimmer etc etc) The only brand I do not have anything of is Lee.)

I think there are subtle differences between al the brands, but your attention to detail / QA process is probably more important than the brand. (Although I am a big fan of Dillon presses and Redding dies.)

The choice is very individual, but you cannot go wrong if you set up a detailed QA procedure and stick to it.

just beware, reloading can get very addictive.
