I'm sure this has been discussed to death, I didn't see anything in the first couple of pages here to resurrect so apologies if raising the dead.

I am new to reloading pistol caliber, but I'm not new to reloading. I have plenty of good general reference but because this will be for carbine use only I'm sure results won't be reliable to that testing.

I assume hardcast should just be off the table completely? Jacketed rounds only?

I'm starting with the Midway LoadMAP data for this caliber, I like the 230gn rn or hp but if there is a more ideal weight I'm all ears. I'm considering the CamPro box of pills, using the Hornady load data. I'm happy to experiment with the Bullseye and Unique load data but I wonder if they would actually be ideal powders for my use. This is a modern semi auto carbine, I use those powders for reloading levers using cast pills.

Any insight/wisdom/scorn/memes will be appreciated,

Lol you didn't specify what cartridge you're loading, but based on bullet weight I'm going to assume 45ACP?

And most PCCs are going to be set up to acommodate factory pistol ammunition (Buffer/spring weights, twist rates, etc). So most load data you find for pistol cartridges should work. Maybe find the burn rates for each powder and pick one on the slower side (Faster powders tend to work better for lighter bullets and/or shorter barrels).

I've never loaded cast bullets, but I would assume they'd be fine as long as you keep your velocity reasonable (Most PCCs are blowback- you don't have to worry about plugging a gas port with lead), and run a bullet profile that'll load from a mag (Like a round nose- no wad cutters. lol).

####, I guess that would have helped. Yes 45acp. I bought some factory ammo in that weight to see how it goes in the gun (Kriss) and assuming I like it will attempt to replicate.

With the 45acp and 230gn projectiles you won’t be limited to jacketed. If my memory serves me correctly, you should be right around the sound barrier. There isn’t anything special about loading 45 for a carbine. It will be the exact same as a pistol.

I reload for my Hi-Point 4595TS and find that middle powder loads group well at 25 yards but not so great at 50 or 75 yards (at 100? Ha ha!). I'm using 200gr Campro projectiles and CFE Pistol powder. Once the Ontario ranges open up again I am going to try loading on the high end of CFE Pistol and see if that improves my groupings. While I can't find any +P load data, my Hi-Point is +P capable so was planning on trying max published load. If that fails, then I will switch powders.

As an aside, with my 1911 45acp pistol I shoot light loads with Bullseye under lead projectiles, but due to the PPC shooting I do (7 & 15 yards or so) I decided to load differently for my handgun and PCC.

I use 230gr Campros in my JR Carbine. I had to work my way down the burn chart till I got to HS-6 to get them out the barrel. I'll have to dig through my notes to remember the 2 or 3 powders I had that didn't work. Needed a longer power spike.

Edit...I can't find the notes, but I'm fairly certain it was W231 and Titegroup that didn't work out. Changing to LP and/or mag primers or brands didn't change that.
