Hey guy,

Im new to the reloading thing and im wondering what is the best powder for heigh velocity. im reloading my .204 and my .243 and still want to maintain that 4000 fps but get away from that $50 bill atached to all the hight proformance factory loads.

Check your reloading books for which powders are listed for each caliber, then check these lists to see which is the faster burning powder of those listed if that's what you want. The books will tell you the muzzle speeds they got using each powder - that is probably more important to you than the speed the powder burns at.

I've found that backing it off a level or two in powder speed tends to give me a more accuracte round - ie: if 4 powders are listed, I"ll take Powder # 2 or 3 and ignore the #1 fastest burning powder.

I like to have a variety of powder at home, and when first working up a load, I'll test the max wieght listed for each powder I have in the shells and see which one fills the shell the best - I prefer a 90% capacity fill if I can get it. Then I'll start loading the Min and work up.
