CGN,
My brothers and I are looking into reloading with D4064 powder to save a little money. We shoot an assortment of milsurps all they way from 6.5 carcano to 8x56r. The powder is said to use IMR4064 loads minus 10%.
We reload what some people call “shooter or battlefield” loads we are careful and do not push our rifles as some are 100 years old.
The D4064 powder works across the board for all the rifles we use I am wondering if anyone has any experience using this powder? Does it work well following the 10% rule? Anyone ever have any issues with it?
Thank you!

I use it in my 223 loads using 68gr bullets with great accuracy.
I'd say the IMR4064 less 10% rule is a safe bet.

I've used D4064 in many mlsurp rfles. Very good stuff, don't hesitate. 4064 is slightly slower than 4895 powders.

My D4064 is very close to IMR4064, could basically use IMR4064 published data - BUT there are different LOT numbers of D4064 and as a bulk powder the variation between lot numbers will vary more than the cannister powders we normally use. For that reason you will need to use the 10% reduction rule when you first start using it and if you buy a new lot number you'll need to do it again every time.

It's good powder for what you are going to use it for.

I use IMR3031 data because it's almost identical load density and about 10+% faster than IMR4064.

The median/accuracy loads for IMR3031 in the manuals is almost identical to the loads I end up using for 303Brit.

The only reason I use this powder is because I ended up with 5 pounds of it from a trade. If I needed more powder, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this from CanadaAmmo. It's very consistent under the conditions I shoot.

Powder isn't going to get any cheaper and this stuff is reasonably priced at around $35/pound, not including shipping.

If you have a chronograph and a pound of IMR4064, IMR4895, IMR3031, H4895, etc. you can easily see where your lot of D4064 falls for the cartridge-bullet combination you're shooting. Everything else is guesswork.

I have developed one load so far for .308 Winchester. 147grn FMJ over 45grns of D4064 with LC brass gives 2730fps from a 22" barrel. The velocities tracked quite well with the given speeds from Hodgdon. Across all the charges I tried (43-45 in 0.2 increments) the SD and spreads were some of the consistently lowest I have ever had. My only gripe with the stuff is despite being "super short cut" it still doesn't meter very well. +/- 0.5 is not unusual and that is unacceptable to me unfortunately...
