reloads in 1911

I have a cheap Norinco too, lol so I did think about shooting them

What is worst case? Damage to gun or injury to myself. Obviously I dont want to do anything that will injure me.

If the guys been reloading for years though im sure they're fine. How often do you actually hear of reloads blowing up guns? Even if they do I havent heard of anyone getting injured. Im too cheap to throw a box away anyways lol. You can try and make him pay for your gun if something does happen...

I probably wouldnt shoot them in my norinco 1911 in case the guy screwed a few up. My scale got really inaccurate over the last while and my reloads have been out a few grains towards the max load. I have to triple check the charge now just to be sure.

How is the 04 subaru running? any problems? I always loved the look and wanted the 04/05 with the 2.5L engine, but always had trouble finding one. But im pretty happy with the 2010 WRX

My wrx is great. She's only the 2L though.
I prefer it over the 2.5. The japs don't
Use the 2.5 at all, even in sti.
I've got it modded to 360hps so its more
Then potent. Lol at least you got one, who
Really cares about the year.

As for the reloads, I have no idea wjhat
Ill do with them yet, they will probably
Sit there for quite awhile.

any turbo lag? how about gas use with 360hp? im considering getting a 100hp upgrade but just dont think ill ever get to use that extra power in ontario

2004 in the pic

Yeah I don't think ill see him again for awhile
If ever. Kind of a random thing.

Look at the quote above and tell me if that sounds like someone you'd bet your hands, eyesight or life on.
There's cheap and then there's stupid.
All it takes is a double charge or even worse a squib load leaving a bullet in the barrel followed by the next round going kaboom

There's definately more turbo lag, maybe hits
700-1000rpm later but a huge difference.
I'm in ontario too. Can't got fast but you
Can sure reach the speedlimit aweful quick.

And gas mileage is terrible. Spirited city driving
Will net you 20L per 100kms with premium.
And hwy can get down to 12L per 100 at best
For me. So not good at all. Lol

One of my favorites quotes from my past life playing with Import cars (First Gen RX-7s)

"If only my 1/4 mile times were as low as my gas mileage."

Ricers aside :stirthepot2:....grin... the best quote I've heard about shooting someone else's ammo is "you shouldnt' share someone's ammo unless you'd share their underwear". Get HIS gun and shoot it......

feel like im hijacking the thread... ;)

but anyway.... that really bad with the gas, esp with the price of premium these days. with the 265hp had it as low as 8.2L per 100 highway, dont know the city but the cold starts in winter are really killing the gas economy, 11.2L per 100 on last fill up

back to the thread....

Worst case scenario is you wreck the gun, your hands/fingers, and maybe lose an eye, or your sight in it anyway.

Bullet pullers are inexpensive and last a while.

If I were in your shoes...? Geez, I just don't know. Shoot them with all my senses on high (for squib loads that leave a bullet up the barrel, to cause the next shot to blow the gun up) (which are detectable by an oddly quiet 'pop' instead of a big 'bang', for starters), or shoot them all la-dee-da?

Get a bullet puller, $20-30, and you get to start your reloading kit purchases on a good foot. :)

I had thought about shooting them one at
A time, and visually clearing the barrel
After every shot. If I was target shooting
I could take my time and do this.

What is the result if they are charged with
Too much powder? Barrel damage?

I also thought about disassembling a few, verifying
The quantity of powder, then using a precise scale
Weight the other cartridges and compare the
Weight to my disassembled components. But I think at that
Point its probably not worth it.

Or, you could just shoot 'em. After all, even though everyone here on CGN is perfect, you may be the exception, and after you too have handloaded tens of thousands of rounds, you may be the very first CGN'er to err, and to actually fail to charge, or double charge, a handload. And after failing to charge a reload, you may fail to detect the squib, and trip a live round down spout after the squib, whereupon you will discover first hand what happens. Frequently the magazine blows out the bottom of the gun, the grip panels come off, sometimes some fingers get broken, and safety glasses get tested. Some modern verion of the duelling scar may result. Ditto with a double charge. It happens. To CGN'ers, and guys who sell, legally or otherwise, boxes of reloads. The less attentive handloaders where I shot IPSC had numerous incidents of un-intended modification of their guns. And yet, if someone arrived at a match and had lost his ammo to bagage handlers, or ran short because of re-shoots, or if they had made a dimensional error and needed ammo to compete, no one hesitated to loan or borrow. Liability? Sure. Who gives a flying copulation?

If you peruse gun magazines, you will see major manufacturers recalling the occasional run of guns, ammo, Toyotas, Rolls Royce aircraft engines, you name it. Life is not without risk. Only death is without risk. Live while you are alive. You will have eternity to be safe in your grave.

Very valid points. I'm still up in the air about
The whole thing. They will probably sit
For awhile. And if I do shoot them, I may
Clear the barrel after every shot, thus avoiding
An undetected squib.

I am constantly amazed by the deep-seated fear Canadians have of firearms. Granted, popping am outrageously over-charged round in a 1911, could, in absolute worst case, put out an eye, or partially amputate a finger, but the odds just aren't there. Now, I'm all for safety, but really, this is the generation that has unprotected ### with "active" partners, texts while driving drunk, races on snow covered streets in summer tires, tailgates, changes lanes without signalling to race to the next stop light, and never, ever would consider slowing down for a blizzard or a torrential downpour, but we might not shoot handloads someone else loaded? High-marking with our alpine sleds, skipping open water when flatlanding, and skiing out of bounds in avalanche country, but we won't shoot reloads.

OK I get it. Killing others with irresponsible actions is just fine, but trusting another shooter isn't?

You have some good points as before.
But what the other fellas are saying, is
Why take the risk if you don't have to.
Its not like a few boxes of 45 breaks the bank.

And ild love to trust the guy, but would
Rather trust him only with my gun, not my body.

And I'm not sying I won't shoot them. I probably
Will end of shooting them.
I'm just sayin.
