Hi Eric, if you are talking about that 98 Mauser 35 Whelen I build and sold it to you in spring 09 then indeed you have super slick and fast 16" twist Douglas premium barrel. 2750 fps with 250gr bullet in 22" barrel is almost hard to belive, although I stopped at 2600 fps with RL 15 and no pressure signs whatsoever. I see no reason to hot rod that rifle beyond that b/c some mauser actions ( although very safe) might develop locking lugs setback ( indentation ) in receiver with prolonged hard use. To bad I didn't chamber it with 35 Whelen AI in 24" barrel b/c this would be the proper way to gain extra bullet speed.

I am really liking the way it perfoms with the 225gr. TSX at 2660fps. I shot a big black bear with that rifle this spring in NWT and it performed very well.

The rifle shoots well, and I like the 22" barrel. It's handy.
 
Has anyone tried this powder in a 350 RM yet?
I was just reading about the RL-17 on the Alliant site yesterday and wondering about it.

Won't be much different than the 35Whelen results given above I would guess.

I care for and feed four different 350RMs. But as yet I haven't got around to introducing them to ReL17. Someday - maybe soon - we'll see. A few days ago I was testing 200TSXs with IMR3031 from my Rem "KS" custom/350RM - hard to get enough 3031 in the case with that looongish bullet. ReL17 would have been interesting.

Yukon280 what bullet weight interests you?
 
I had a 673 follow me home one day and it seems to be thriving on the 225 NPs. I was using W748, and was pretty happy with the results, then after reading (and enjoying mightily I might add) your site, I went to the RL15 loads, gave 'em a whirl, and never looked back. The 673 is fat and happy on the RL15, but the Alliant folks sure make the 17 concoction sound like it will do everything but put hair back on your scalp.

Unless you find it fun experimenting with various powders (and I do) I'd recommend just staying with ReL15. A buddy's 673 shot 225s accurately at over 2800 with ReL15! Otherwise go get some ReL17 and let us know whether or not it'll grow hair back on your scalp - oh and if it shoots good too.

If I try 225s with ReL17 in one of my 350RMs I'll let U know the result. Hard finding time now - there's work and the bear hunt is on here now.
 
Well, I took your recomendation, and picked up a Lb. I didn't smear it on my noggin, but I did use it in some .280R loads. Wow.
Simply wow.
Worked up from 49.5 grains (2711 av.) to 52.5 (2911 av) with a 160 gr Accubond. No pressure signs, fantastic grouping, much less felt recoil than my RL-22 loads (and more velocity).
The 51.5 gr load at 2810 will be my favourite methinks. Might try bumping up to 53 or 53.5 just to see, but an honest 2800 FPS or so suits me just fine for a 160 grain.
Now I'll have to try it in the 350RM, although it shoots so well with the RL15 that I don't know whether to bother.
 
I'm running the 375/06 with 55 grains of H4895 behind the 250 grain sierra and getting 2600 without a worry. Mind you thats a 26" pacnor pipe. I wonder how this powder would be in the 35. I like the extreme powders because it doesnt matter what the weather man says,I'm good to go:D
