Can anyone offer comparison/contrast insights on the Remington 11-87 Premier shotgun? In particular, are there notable quality enhancements in the Premier model when compared to the basic 11-87 models? Is the Premier on par with the Wingmaster line? Is the Premier as robust as the 11-87 Police model?

Your insights and experience are welcome and appreciated!

I've had both the premier and the SP models. Functionally the same, but the premier had a lighter contour barrel, gloss bluing, gloss stocks, chrome bolt, and engraving on the receiver.

The Special Purpose (now called sportsman) has a heavier barrel (better for swinging on birds and clays) and black bolt, synthetic stocks.

Of the two, I preferred the SP over the shiny premier for a hunting gun.

don't know much about the difference between them, but I've been beating the snot out of my premier for about 15 yrs. using it for everything and it's been working flawlessly, only replaced the rubber O ring once, and I bought that at the hardware store in the plumbing section......

Essentially the Premier is the Wingmaster and the Sportsman is the Express.

I had a Premier. Loved it. Shot it well. Sold it in a moment of insanity. Regret selling it every day.

When looking for an autoloader for my son, I could only find a used Premier 11-87 that was in my price range and left handed. Can't compare the two but the Premier has functioned flawlessly from heavy goose loads to target loads. It patterns steel very well with the imp choke and is very easy to strip and clean. I got a really good deal from a member here and couldn't be happier the purchase.

The 11-87 Primer is a very good quality autoloader and can be bought at a reasonable price new and used it would be my choice over even the Benelli or the Beretta , The win sx3 would be another good choice

The 11-87 was an attempt by Remington to update an outdated design in the 1100 & the Premier is just the polished version.

I've owned both 1100's and 11-87's and while they are OK the do not come anywhere near the functional ability of the Beretta 391 or Benelli and I certainly wouldn't take one over any of the "B" guns.

I have to agree! My first gun was a Premier and I had problems with it constantly (not a cleaning issue as I am meticulous with every gun I own). I sold the Premier and got an SBE II and I absolutely love it! I also have an AL391 which is also a beauty of a gun!
Chances are my Premier might have been a lemon or just bad luck on my part but I probably wouldn't get another one.
