I have my father's Remington 1100 Magnum that was used as his duck or goose gun awhile back. Personally I'm not into bird hunting at this time and I was wondering if their are any shorter barrels available for it? I'm just looking to have a fun shotgun, and the barrel on it is ungodly long for what I want.
I'm really impressed with the looks of the gun itself, the engraving on the bolt and receiver is really nice.

there used to be a slug barrel around for an 1100. the other option is to take it to a gunsmith, have the existing barrel shortened and have the muzzle bored and tapped to accept screw in choke tubes. i assume the barrel you have now is 28" to 30".

I just got a spare barrel , knocked it down to 19" , added some holes (ported)
Stuck on a Williams firesight
I did a few other changes as well , I gotta make a post with pic's .

Does a 19 inch barrel cycle the loads properly or did you drill out the gas ports or something to make it work correctly?

I ask because I am interested in building a shorter barreled version.

the gas ports should not have to be touched at all. the 1100 was made back in the days when rem. engineers figured there should be 2 guns. 1 to handle 3" and 2 3/4" mags and one to handle 2 3/4 " mags down to target loads. the mag version had 1 gas port and the standard version had 2 gas ports.
