How to start this?? Hmm. I am asking for help not for myself but for another.
This is his story as I see it. He is a young man trying to make ends meet. Much like allot of us when we were just starting out. He has a seasonal job so he can go to school to further his education, lives with a few friends to offset the cost but still does not have much left over to do anything with. He loves to go shooting, He will give up going to the bar with his friends so he can come shooting trap. I usually see him every second weekend(pay day weekend). A few years ago he purchase a single barrel Rem. 20 ga. beat up shotgun. I think he said he got it at a yard sale for $10.00. The fore end stock was all busted up so he took it off, and that is what he shoots with. No fore stock. That 20 ga has seen hard abuse before he got it. He cleaned it up and cleans and oils it every time he uses it. He does good with it but could do better.
That is where we come in. I talked to a few people and they think my idea is a good one. I can help him build a Rem. 1100 trap in 12 ga... I picked this shotgun because of all the parts have been available for years. Besides its a good one to learn to shoot trap with.
My plan is: I am not going to tell him the shotgun is for him. He will work on the shotgun and learn how it works inside and out. He will learn all about reloading using my equipment and he will shot my shotgun till his is ready. Then when he takes it out for the final testing I will tell him it is his because he earned it. After all he put all the work into it. I want to be able to tell him about the people who helped, pictures, address etc
What I'm asking for is the parts to build this shotgun out off. Please let me know of any parts you are willing to part with. I already have the wood stock set. They are being donated by a stock maker in the US. He said he would pick out a high figure piece of wood and send them to me. UPS has them in transit.

What do you think? Think I'm just a softy?

Building a firearm out of parts is more expensive than just buying one. He'd be better off buying or making a new forestock.

Primus1 and Blargon, thanx for the words of support. One of the reasons for the model 1100 is the stock, it is already set up for an 1100 Rem... Hopefully I will find the help needed. Sunray, this is about helping someone else get started properly. I am sure that in the future when he starts to earn enough, he will buy what he needs. For now lets all try to give him what he needs. He shoots better than the equipment he owns. He has the time, desire and right attitude. What he needs is a helping hand.

If you help someone and they go beyond your capabilities is that not what you hoped for?

Just something to think about.
