A friend is looking to mount a scope on a Remingto built 1917. Does anybody have a recommendation on a mount? It should be an adventure to shoot this thing, given the drop in the stock, and the hieght the scope is going to end up at!

Someone has a no-mar version IIRC, maybe B-square?
Other wise its usually a matter of popping off the rear ears, and grinding it to a Rem Mod 30/700 contour. Which makes for work.
IIRC I once did one with a side mount, modifying one for a lever-action, but I'm damned if I can remember the side base I used. Point being, the options aren't great.

There's this:

from S&K.

Looks pretty high, but if your friend learns to shoot properly it shouldn't be a problem...

Thanks JKF, that's exactly what he needs. I spoke with Gordon Whitman at Blue Mt. on the weekend, and he gave me the rundown on grinding off the ears, so I'll give my guy both options and let him decide.
Very nice Jerry, but he ain't going to want to stick that behind the door at the camp!
