Can anyone out there with a 28 Rem Sporting verify if the choke tubes are threaded at the breach or the muzzle end of the choke tube. Trying to identify manufacture ? Briley thinwall ?

??? Early ones were flush and later ones were extended but both were briley but some say they had rem chokes also mine didnot
All threads are all in the muzzle position. The Remington factory tubes say REMINGTON and the choke designation. (skeet, etc). ( my 28ga 870's has those) The Briley tubes say S-51 and the constriction numerically. They are different thread pitch and do not interchange with my rem 870's.

Now when I bought extra for the 1100 I had to give the year and serial number and any info on the tube in the gun to briley to make sure I got the right ones

And you thought you were confused before mine were

28ga
S-51 .543
S-51 .544
S-51 .545 (2)
S-51 548-.006
546-.005

Not my words

28 GA
Series 51.choke dia .543 Since nominal 28 bore dia is .550,you can assume .007 constriction
Series 51 .544 .006
Series51 .545 .005
Series51 .548 it also says .006 constriction,so now we know their tube bore diameter is .554 now you can go back and correct the above assumptions on bore dia.
Series 46 choke dia .546 with .541 bore dia. This is a different series and will provide .004 in the .550 tubes.

WOW ! Think I will just send my existing barrels to Briley and have them install thinwalls . My 28 guns are nicer than the new ones anyway all early production with custom wood. Mine are all skeet chokes don't do much of that anymore and want to tighten them up for clays . Thanks 3Macs

Yep I have done that many times over the years with my 10ga's ,410's , 16's and superx 1's
Back then direct but they say now through Lawreys and the price is actually a bit better
I am also pretty sure the S-51's are just Briley thin walls also
Cheers

WOW I thought it was a new sporting. I assumed all of us old guys with the vintage ones bought extra barrels with fixed chokes for 69 bucks each at the time :)
Plus the new sportings are also dam sweet especially the wood

I will give you $75 for any choked barrels you have kicking around (hee hee). Got lots of barrels just no 28 gauge and they did sell cheap back in the day.

Had to buy them needed a full choke barrel for the 28ga 1100 to beat spank in trap and make it fair
The last new rem barrel I bought was a 16ga 870 with rem choke tubes when they came out with the second run in the 2000's and it was like 400 bucks by the time I got it and had to wait months for it
