I own a 597 and a few Rugers.
The 597 isn't bad. I haven't had any fail to fires etc with mine. But it is extremely ammo sensitive. Most ammo it shoots like a shotgun. One lot of Lapua Super Club it shot the best semi auto 22LR group I've ever had. Which was great but I only had a few left. I needed to borrow the scope so it hasn't been used since.
With both the Ruger and the Remington you need to upgrade the triggers. Both have garbage triggers out of the box.
The main advantage with the Ruger are aftermarket availability. New barrels not a problem. Not so with the Remington. Also the 10 round rotary mags of the Ruger slay the whatever type of metal those Remington mags are. Which brings us to another point, of the 3 extra mags I bought for the Remington. 2 of them failed to lock in. I'll have to do some filing.
Overall I prefer the Ruger. But the Remington is at a great price/value.
