I have a R600 action. Just torqued on a new take-off R700 16 1/2" heavy barrel, and it headspaced perfectly.
A factory 600 stock doesn't have enough wood in the forend to open out to take the heavier barrel.
Any suggestions for a moderately priced stock? I'd rather not invest in a full custom unit.

Not the prettiest with miss matched wood but could cut it back and push new wood forward with pair of well timed and glued dowels to join the original stock to the new wood.

Think ram line and boyds are the other options out there but cant speak to their profile differences of the forends

Boyds offers their Pro Varminter for the 600.
In the past, I have fitted a wedge into a forend to widen it; have also added "cheeks" to each side.

I had plenty of wood in a factory .308 stock to take a .900 od. @ the forend 700 5R 6.5 CR varmint barrel, cut to 181/2" and free float it .030" to boot. It took most of a day, with 7/8" and 1" spindle sanding tube on wooden dowels. Slow and steady wins the race.
