I'm going to buy a Rem 700 in 308 and put it in a AICS stock.
The only thing I can't decide is barrel length, any opinion is welcome as long as you have reasoning behind it.
This rifle will be used for hunting and precision shooting. And I know it'll be heavy but I'm going to hunt with it anyways.

I'd recommend 24" - it is a good compromise between being easy enough to carry and yet will retain velocity to allow you to shoot out there in matches. A recommendation for a good out of the box buy would be the Remington R5 and you will be able to sell off the HS Precision stock and bottom metal fairly easily. A 20 MOA rail and good glass and you are set to go. Enjoy.
 
I have a 26 er in a folder and it fits in a standard ar15 length bag. I thought about cutting my 26er down but I sure like the MV it gives me

There's very little in the way of velocity difference between 20"-26" in .308 Winchester. Why penalize yourself with extra weight and reduced ease of carry? If it were my rifle, it'd be 20". Go shorter, you'll be glad you did.

If not going custom, get the AAC SD 700 so you can get the 1:10" twist barrel. It'll stabilize bullets up to 220gr. and give you increased flexibility in bullet choice.

2bad4u2 I'm mostly going to shoot factory 140-180 grain to start so the AAC-SD sounds like the little extra money is worth it.

This is good advice for any firearm when it comes to upgrades or accesories. But I'm getting the AICS because of the look and feel.
Part of the reason I started to buy firearms is movies/video games, not the only reason though. Sad but true lol

It looks like an Eberslystock pack. That's the only one I've seen with the scabbard built into it.
 
I do believe off the top of my head, it is 32" when folded, 40" when unfolded, in comparison to something like ~47" that a 26" SPS Varmint would be for example.
