Rem 700 7mm08 and 180gr ELDs

Don't even bother.

The 7/08 doesn't have the case capacity to push those projectiles efficiently enough, especially with a factory twist, even with the faster twist barrel it likely won't cut it.As well you'll need a long throat as those' 180's will eat up ALOT of case capacity if you don't.

You may get results from 168ish projectiles but those have diminished performance in the 7/08 from my experience.

I settled on 150gr SMK's after all the messing around I did.

The ELD in 162 may sneak in as viable for your application.

Last week I developed a load for my Vanguard Youth carbine with 180gr. ELD Match bullet. Accuracy was outstanding, half inch from first powder I tried, all the way to 400m. Velocity was 2430fps from that 20" barrel. Slow twist of 9.5" doesn't seem to affect stability of this heavy bullet.

I think it is a ridiculous combination... big bullets need bigger cases...

I will hunt with this bullet and would not hesitate to take an elk with it. Loaded similar Amax for a friend who took a moose with it with his 300 Weatherby (208 Amax).
Hornady 162gr. Amax worked perfectly in my 7x57 on a deer buck.

A very poor choice for big game.AMAX is not designed for tough targets.

Regular old Hornady 154 grain bullet works wonders on moose at over 300 yards with a 7mm 08...

I run Hornady 162 in mine. 26” 1-9 twist barrel.

I had pressure issues with reload at first and found out I had to reduce the charges by about 5-10% below minimum. I get 2550fps with my most accurate load.

I could see myself building an 8 twist 7-08 someday, it would gobble the 180 ELD. @ 2450 fps muzzle velocity, they retain 1350 fps @ 1100 yards. This smokes a 308 with any load

I am using 42gn of H414. May not be the best powder for the 7-08 but I have 10lbs of it. I had many pressure problems so I had to reduce the charge.

According to the various reloading data I got it seems to be in the velocity range with the 414.

Makes sense I got 2550 from a 22” barrel using 44gr H414. Definitely pressure signs. Can’t use nearly as much H414 as the manual would suggest.
