Doesn't look like anyone wants to answer this??
The right way is to buy the tool for $12 that holds the cocking piece back while you unscrew it.
The next best is to use some soft jaws in your bench vise and clamp the notched cocking piece while you pull the body and unscrew.
Lots of people use vise-grips to clamp it and pull while unscrewing and since it's case hardened they don't really mark it up. Not number one though.
I've been without tools and used the neck of an empty brass case to push the cocking piece up the ramp while you hold the bolt by the body and the head resting on a piece of wood. - Not easy but it doesn't hurt anything.
I've read that if you're wearing boots with strong laces you can hook the hook of the cocking piece on the lace between the eyes closest to the toe and pull and turn. -Never tried it but it it would work I guess.
