I was thinking of cunvrting my Remington 700 SPS 30-06 so the barrel would be floating. Inside the stock, at the far end, there is 2 peices of plastic and the barrel rest on it. Would it be good to grind those off, or should I leave it the way it is. Can it affect the precision?

Anybody did this before?

I think that the barrel contour is heavy enough that free-floating would be beneficial...remove barrel-channel bumps with caution...don't want to make it look like ####....

If going to that length, piller bed the action, free float the barrel, if its a heavier barrel contour best to support the barrel shank about the length of the cartridge, then float the barrel. I have yet to encounter a Rem 700 that does not shoot better bedded and floated.

How do you bed the action?

How do you bed the action? Do you need any parts? Any pics of that operation. For the barrel, it's the original 30-06 (sport type), not heavy barrel.

you'll need a glass bedding kit, there are alot of sites on the net with how-to picture insturctions

do a search on google for 'glass bedding rifles'

gunsmiths can do this for you as well, for a price
