Has anyone ever tried these out before (from Brownells)?
They are cheap ($17) way to increase capacity, but was wondering if this is one of those "you get what you pay for" items.
I've got TWO of them installed on my M700's and I love them. I can stuff 9 rounds of .223 into my M700 LTR Wannabe (was an SPS, but screwed on an LTR 9" twist takeoff barrle).
I've also got the other on my VSF .308 sniper rig. Installation is FAST and simple.
I agree, drift out the floorplate hinge pin, and install the new item with existing pin. Viola. I am still lokking for a .223 trigger guard that accepts .223 mags though. Any ideas guys?
Hey dude, I put one of these on my 700P and it works great. It's definately a much cheaper way to get more capacity than putting on a detachable magazine. The only thing that I had to do was make the notch a little bigger so that it would latch properly... other than that it's great.
Yes, the HSP system does have .223 magsavailable but I've only ever seen them in 5 shot mags - the only 10 round ones I've seen were .308 - don't know about max length either.
I have the Brownell's mag ext and they are ok if all you need is 6+1 (308)
I am surprised you can put 9 of the 223s (8+1)
Badger Ordnance makes a detach mag system that takes AI mags. It is more expensive but if you need firepower it's the way to go. I do sniper matches in the States and sometimes there are 25 rds stages. (5 x 5 positions for ex.)
I did it with the Brownell's affair last year but I'm going to the DMS. It's called an M5 Triggerguard and works for 308 style cartridges. It takes Accuracy International mags. 10 rds are available. 335$ for the M5 with one 5 rd mag and about 100$ each for the 10 rd mags. I use them for 260 Rem and my OAL is 2.84 which is no prob. in the AI mags. The Badger DMS are presently back order. I had trouble getting mine. They also require inleting the stock with new pillars.
After seeing the Armalon conversion, I was pretty hot to get my hands on one. Unfortunetley, I got this reply: Furthermore, we do not offer our products to the North American continent
due to the cost of products liability cover for that area, which emanates
from the highly litigious nature of some American consumers.
Interesting read. I'm curious about another drawback to a detach mag system is the limited OAL of a .223 round. I imagine I won't have much room to seat the bullet further out on a M14 mag?
kell, I'm not quite following you - are you now thinking of using .223 (oal ~ 2.25) in a m14 mag (.308 - oal ~2.7)? If so, wouldn't it be way too long, even for you custom length .223 rounds?
